Technology Challenge Day!

On the 17th of May, most of Whio and Hoiho went to the Hockey tournament. The people who did not go to the tournament stayed at school and had a "Technology Challenge Day."

In the morning the first challenge was to build a model of a step ladder. The ladder had to be over 1.5 metres and had to have four steps, the top step had to be able to hold an empty bucket. Plus our creation had to stand without any support. Our ladder was made from 30 sheets of newspaper, 10 metres of string, 10 metres of tape and 1 A4 sheet of card. Then we had one and a half hours to build our ladder. We didn't do so well as most of them failed to stand! However, we did learn what not to do next time! We need to use more triangles for strength in our designs.

A sturdy base..
'Catch the wind....'
In the afternoon we had to make a paper windmill. This time our supplies were; 10 sheets of plain paper, 2 sheets of A4 card, 2 metres of masking tape and two metres of string. We only had one hour to make our windmill. Once the hour was up we tested how many times the windmill went round. Unfortunately they were going so fast we couldn't count how many times they went round!

These were far more successful than our step ladders.
